akhirah: afterlife

dunya: world

emaan: faith

ibaada: an act of worship done for the sake of Allah

Al-Mulk: one of Allah’s 99 names, The Sovereign

wudu: partial ablution before performing prayers

Allah: God

jinn: Allah made a creature made from fire that live in another dimension (not in ours)

As-Sami: one of Allah’s 99 attributes; The Hearer of All

da’wah: to invite people to Islam

du’ah: asking favors from Allah through supplication and invocation

ummah: the community of Muslims

ayah: verses or signs

Qu’ran: main religious text for Muslims

fitrah: nature/instinct

hadith: Prophet Muhammed’s actions and sayings

shukran: thank you in Arabic

saha: means “health” and is used endearingly

barakah: blessing

Fajr: dawn prayer (first prayer out of the five)

Asr: afternoon prayer (third prayer out of the five)

Jannah: paradise

sunnah: sayings and teachings of the Prophet Muhammed (saw)

fard: obligatory

Ar-Rahim: one of Allah’s 99 names, The Most Merciful

Al-Ghaffur: one of Allah’s 99 names, The Forgiving
